PREPARING MARY THE ICHTHYOSAUR
AT CHARMOUTH FOSSILS

Report number 4 - on 4th July 2001

We can now show you the partially exposed jaws and skull. Acid is now being used to remove the rest of the deposited stone.

This is one piece of jaw after a few days in the acid tank.
The pieces can only be put in the acid for a few hours at a time, then have to be cleaned in fresh water. Newly exposed bone is covered with a sealer to stop the acid attacking it.

We hope to have the jaws on display at the Fossil Roadshow at Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre on the 26th August.
